The Greater Bay Area Airlines, headquartered in Hong Kong, is undergoing a year long preparation to prove the airworthiness of the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft to the Civil Aviation Authority of Hong Kong. At the beginning of this month, the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States grounded most of the Boeing 737 Max 9 jet planes after a Boeing 737 Max 9 cabin door fell off during flight, causing the plane to make an emergency landing. The Federal Aviation Administration plans to continue this measure until extensive inspections are completed.
After the Alaska aviation accident, Greater Bay Area Airlines issued a statement stating that it currently has 5 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which are "completely different" from the aircraft involved in the incident. In addition, the company announced in March last year that it had ordered 15 737-9 aircraft from Boeing, which was originally expected to be delivered gradually by the end of this year.
The CEO of Greater Bay Area Aviation, Hsu Han chung, said in a Bloomberg interview that Hong Kong's certification process "must be extended and may take longer to complete.".
