On December 30th, Nandu reporters learned from the official website of Jeju Airlines that as of 11:00 local time on the 30th, the identities of 141 victims in the Jeju Airlines air crash on the 29th have been confirmed. At a briefing on the details of the accident held in the morning of that day, a spokesperson for the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated that the landing point of the crashed plane was approximately 1200 meters away from the starting point of the runway, which means that the plane slid about 1600 meters while landing on the fuselage and eventually crashed into a wall and caught fire.
According to previous reports from Nandu, at around 9:07 am local time on December 29th, a South Korean Jeju Air passenger plane veered off the runway during landing at Woan International Airport in Jeollanam do, South Korea, and collided with the airport walls before catching fire. The plane involved in the accident was Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, flying from Bangkok, Thailand to Busan, South Korea. There were a total of 181 people on board, including 175 passengers and 6 crew members.
The South Korean Fire Department stated that except for 2 people who were rescued in the collision and fire accident of a South Korean plane, all 179 people on board died. This is the deadliest air crash that has occurred domestically in South Korea.
On December 30th local time, a reporter from Nandu learned from the official website of Jeju Airlines that the latest report shows that as of 6:48 local time, the bodies of 179 victims have been placed in temporary morgues. As of 11:00 am local time, the identities of 141 victims have been confirmed. At present, the insurance related procedures for subsequent compensation have been initiated.
In addition, the latest report states that the runway at Wu'an Airport has been closed, 10 international flights and 5 domestic flights in South Korea have been cancelled, and the relevant refund procedures and itinerary changes are still pending further processing.
On the morning of the 30th, the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism held another briefing on the Jeju Air plane crash. According to local media reports, a spokesperson for the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated at the meeting that the two black boxes found (including the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder) have been handed over to the testing and analysis center for inspection, and multiple parties including Boeing will conduct a joint investigation.
When asked about the landing site of the crashed plane, the spokesperson also stated that it is estimated to be located "about 1200 meters from the starting point of the runway". According to reports, the total length of the runway is about 2800 meters, which means that the aircraft taxied about 1600 meters while landing on the fuselage, and eventually crashed into airport walls and other facilities, catching fire.
