On April 22, Tesla welcomed the tenth anniversary of the delivery of the first batch of Model S in Chinese Mainland. It is reported that since 2014, the number of Tesla Chinese car owners has increased from 15 to over 1.7 million. During the same period, the number of new energy vehicles in China jumped from 216400 to over 20 million. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the retail penetration rate of new energy in the Chinese passenger car market has exceeded 50% in the first two weeks of April 2024.
As the scale of car owners expands, the guarantee of infrastructure is equally crucial. So far, Tesla has built more than 11000 super charging piles in Chinese Mainland and more than 55000 in the world, forming the world's largest and most extensive high-power DC charging network.
Since its official production in 2019, Tesla's Shanghai Superfactory has relied on China's well-established supply chain system and first-class "Chinese intelligent manufacturing" capabilities to become the world's most efficient vehicle factory, achieving an average of more than 30 seconds to produce a complete vehicle. The Shanghai super factory has become Tesla's main global export center, with a cumulative delivery volume of 947000 vehicles in 2023, accounting for more than half of its global production capacity.
Recently, Tesla announced that the first energy storage super factory outside the United States, the Shanghai Energy Storage Super Factory, will start construction in May 2024 and complete mass production in the first quarter of 2025, planning to produce a super large commercial energy storage battery Megapack. In addition, Tesla CEO Elon Musk previously announced that Tesla will release its latest unmanned taxi Robotaxi on August 8th.
