Baidu PR Vice President Qu Jing apologizes for the public opinion controversy caused by the short video incident, stating that she will improve her personal communication and management methods.
On the early morning of May 9th, Baidu Vice President Qu Jing posted on her social media circle, apologizing sincerely to netizens for causing controversy due to her personal short video. "I have carefully read everyone's opinions and comments on various platforms, and many of the criticisms are very relevant. I deeply reflect and humbly accept them."
Qu Jing stated that before releasing the short video, she did not seek the company's opinion in advance, which does not comply with the relevant procedures and does not represent the company's position. She hereby clarifies and apologizes. Many inappropriate and uncomfortable aspects in the video have caused misunderstandings about the company's values and corporate culture from the outside, causing serious harm. We sincerely apologize.
Qu Jing said that the original intention of posting short videos was to do a good job, but being too impatient and using inappropriate methods has caused discomfort and trouble for everyone. She sincerely accepts various criticisms, "I will seriously improve my personal communication and management methods, correct mistakes, care more about colleagues, humbly listen to everyone's valuable suggestions in practice, and hope everyone can criticize and correct me."
On May 8th, there were rumors that Qu Jing had been fired by Baidu. In response, Qu Jing said, "I'm at work.".
A reporter from Pengpai News also asked Baidu about this matter, and an insider from Baidu replied, "I just saw her go to work."
Qu Jing, graduated from the School of Foreign Affairs, has served as Vice President of Huawei's Public and Government Affairs Department and Minister of China's Media Affairs Department. In August 2021, it was reported by the media that Qu Jing had joined Baidu as Vice President (VP), responsible for the public communication department of the group.
A few days ago, Qu Jing published several videos on her personal Tiktok account, causing controversy, and many related topic entries were posted on Weibo hot search. In the video, Qu Jing revealed that she had been reported in 300 letters written by employees, and Qu Jing claimed that "most of the content in the letters was defamatory and fabricated.". In addition, Qu Jing also talked about her management experience, "If an employee breaks up and resigns, I will criticize them immediately. Why should I consider the employee's family... I am not her mother-in-law, but my main concern is whether he can deliver results to me in a timely manner in his position..."
Due to the intense content discussed by Qu Jing in the video, it triggered public opinion and further elevated the discussion of video content to Baidu's values. Some analysts also pointed out that several videos released by Qu Jing all have the element of "leading battle", which is a conventional way of the rapid rise of personal IP of non hot event parties, and is common in microblog, WeChat official account, Baijia account, Tiktok, etc.
On May 7, Qu Jing cleared all the videos on Tiktok.
