According to US media reports, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on the 6th local time an investigation into Boeing's quality inspection and falsification of records.
According to a report by CNN on the 6th, the FAA stated that in April of this year, Boeing proactively notified the agency that it may not have completed the required inspections to confirm whether the joints and electrical grounding at the connection between the wings and fuselage of certain 787 Dreamliner aircraft are sufficient. The FAA is investigating the issue and whether Boeing employees have forged records.
During the investigation, Boeing employees will inspect the undelivered 787 Dreamliner and develop an inspection plan for the operating aircraft model.
According to the Associated Press, Boeing executive Scott Stoke, who is responsible for the 787 project, told employees in an email on April 29th that an employee discovered an anomaly during a test of wing to fuselage engagement and reported it to their manager. The company quickly launched a review and learned that some people violated company policies and did not conduct the required tests, but recorded that the work had been completed.
Stoke stated that the company promptly reported the situation to regulatory authorities and quickly took corrective measures. Boeing's engineering team assessed that the misconduct discovered this time will not immediately cause flight safety issues.
In recent months, Boeing aircraft have experienced accidents such as embedded emergency doors falling off, engines catching fire, tires falling off, running off the runway, and damaged wings, putting pressure on the aircraft manufacturer from US regulatory agencies, airlines, and Congress. In addition, the news of the deaths of two Boeing safety whistleblowers has also attracted widespread attention. (End)
