Thousands of Iranians held street rallies on Saturday to commemorate the anniversary of the occupation of the US Embassy in Tehran in 1979. They shouted slogans such as "America to die" and "Israel to die", while condemning US support for Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip.
At the same time as the country convened a rally, the Israeli-Kazakh war entered its fourth week. The Hamas attack on October 7th resulted in the death of approximately 1400 Israelis and the taking of over 240 hostages. Israel's retaliatory actions have resulted in over 9000 deaths in the Gaza Strip.
People gathered outside the former US Embassy in Tehran, and someone lit the flags of the United States and Israel.
Protesters trampled on photos of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden. Others held up signs and said that the United States is the "Great Demon", "We have trampled on America at our feet
Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, criticized the United States for supporting Israel at a rally. He said that the United States is "the main perpetrator of all these crimes against the Palestinians in Gaza
Galibav said that Hamas attacks have caused "irreparable" intelligence and security losses to Israel.
They issued a statement representing protesters at the end of the commemoration, calling for an "immediate ceasefire" in Gaza and warning the United States, Britain, and France that the crisis may escalate in the region. The statement concludes with an oath that the Iranians will support the Palestinians "until ultimate victory".
The demonstration began in the Palestinian square in the center of Tehran. Protesters marched nearly two kilometers to reach the former US embassy compound. National television footage shows similar gatherings held in other towns in Iran.
This annual gathering is a venue for anti Western sentiment, usually attracting angry crowds.
Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei criticized the United States for supporting Israel on Wednesday, saying that without American support, Israel would be paralyzed.
He called for an end to the Israeli-Halestinian war and for Muslim countries to end their economic cooperation with Israel.
Iran has always supported anti Israel radical organizations such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad, as well as Hezbollah in Lebanon.
