According to Edward Moya, a senior analyst in Oanda, the Fed will suspend the Eagles next week, following the maximum increase of PCE in September for four months. In his view, the Fed would indicate that the interest rate hike was working, but that policymakers might send a signal of reausterity. Although personal spending increased by 0.7 per cent last month, the individual savings rate fell to its lowest level since March 2022. As savings decline, they may also see a weakness in the labour market, as the number of applicants for unemployment benefits rises and enterprises face unfavourable borrowing conditions next year.
